U.S. Bar Table Championships / Reno, NV

The Sands Hotel and Casino in Reno, NV, is host to the U.S. Bar Table Championships, which got underway Wednesday, February 28. The action started with 9-ball and will run through the weekend, when 8-ball will start up and carry through another few days.

The area has been plagued with poor weather, making for a lower-than-expected 144-player field for the race to 9, double-elimination event. The total prize fund will be over $24,000. Hopes are higher for the 8-ball event, which already has over 200 entries and the count continues to grow.

Crowd favorites such as Gabe “The Babe” Owen, Rafael Martinez, Kim Davenport, Rodolfo Luat, Gandy Valle, and others are all in attendance as the first round kicked off late afternoon local time. All of the competitors are enjoying a great event thanks to 7-foot Diamond tables with 4-and-a-half-inch pockets, Simonis cloth, and Aramith Pro Balls. Making sure things run smoothly all week, tournament director Ken Shuman will have his eyes cast upon the tournament room for the next five days.
