IPT Day Three Report

December 3rd, 2005

IPT Day Three ReportEfren Reyes (index.php?option=content&task=view&id=85) have qualified for the finals and are now assured of at least $30,000 in prize money. The rest of the field went home with $20,000 in their pockets—far more than almost any first prize in pool up till now. The day started off with a jolt as Reyes—an early favorite to win it all, according to the buzz outside the hall—was downed by fellow Hall of Famer but long-retired Ray Martin, 8-6. Reyes, perhaps a little jet-lagged, rallied to run over Robin Dodson 8-0, but then lost on the hill to Cory Deuel. Martin showed it wasn’t a fluke by finishing a respectable 3-2. After the final round, Martin, Reyes and Buddy hall were tied with 3-2 records, but Reyes’ GLI of 4.00 sent him into the finals.

IPT Day Two Results

December 2nd, 2005

IPT Day Two ResultsThe sold-out crowds were treated to pool like they’ve never seen it before at the IPT King of the Hill Invitational 8-Ball Shootout in Orlando. Thirty players started yesterday, and only 15 advanced. Those 15 have been reduced to just six. “This is really exciting,” said Rebecca Roberts, a longtime pool fan. “I’ve never seen anything like this, with all the cameras and the top notch arena. There’s never been this kind of money in pool. It’s like a boxing prizefight.” With $1 million at stake, the Hall of Famers will join the six players who made it through today’s brutal competition to start the battle for the big money. Mika Immonen, Corey Deuel, Francisco Bustamante, Nick Van den Berg, Marlon Manalo and Johnny Archer advance to the next round.

IPT Day One

December 1st, 2005

IPT Day OneDay one of the IPT King of the Hill tournament was a major success. Players and tour members were in awe at the magnitude of the production and the size of the set and tournament area. Most players polled admitted that they have never seen anything like this anywhere in their careers. The main arena is a very dramatic and dazzling set that features VIP seating that is as close to the table as possible! The main tournament room is filled with first class decorations and graphics that remind those at the event of the golden era of pocket billiards.Players showed up in shirts and ties and female players dressed accordingly. When IPT players show up to play their matches, they are clearly different looking than the typical spectator and this stand out as the professionals they are. Play kicked off at 10am with 30 players competing all day to try and make the 15 player cut for the second day of competition. In the afternoon, Johnny Damon (Boston Red Sox) stopped by the tournament to check out some matches and knock some balls around with Mike Sigel, the current King of the Hill.
