Strickland Undefeated But DepressedDiscuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship (/forums/index.php)Visit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery (/pool_billiard_photos/index.php?cat=16&page=3)“I’ve never had a clock on my matches,” he ranted without explanation. “That’s because it’s never gonna happen to me, don’t you get it? I’m not gonna let it happen, I don’t care if am playing the slowest guy in the tournament—I’m not gonna let it happen. I’ll keep him up to pace, I’ll get up to the table and hurry up and miss, let him back to the table. You know what he does? He goes to the bathroom first thing. They do have some stiff rules here—the one rule they are lacking is the shot clock more than anything. That’s the most imperative rule in this game—it protects me and the game and all the great, talented players. The guys that can’t think fast enough will just fall by the wayside. That’s the way it should it.

He had played against Robert McKenna of the UK and speedily won 8-2. “I played very good, I think, I played a fast match, twenty-five minutes, I think. I played good and broke good. I had a couple of racks, very tough, not easy, but I worked through them. I feel good now and for tomorrow. If I can play like this, I won’t have a problem.”

It was very clearly laid out at the players meeting that if you use a phenolic tip you’re disqualified, so unfortunately in the first round we had to disqualify him and he forfeits his prize money.”

The real problem is I am missing too many easy shots. That was okay today, but as things go on and on, they get tougher and tougher and you can’t do that any longer. The tables are playing a little tricky, but overall I like the way they are playing. Just that sometimes when you come off the cushon you expect a certain angle … what people don’t understand is that the cloth has only been played on for seven or eight days—it usually about a month to break in the cloth.”

Keeping a comfortable three-game distance between them, Moore wove in and out of the racks as Hohmann sat stiffly in his chair. Moore had an empty break, allowing the former world champion to clear the table and bring the score to 4-2 Moore, but then Hohmann came up dry himself, and Moore ran out.
